Kingston, Jamaica — Jamaica’s main opposition People’s National Party (PNP) has won the country’s parliamentary elections, while the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) conceded defeat, preliminary results indicated late Thursday.
With more than 1.6 million Jamaican voters casting their ballots in Thursday’s elections, the PNP won 41 out of the 63 seats in the lower house, with the JLP winning the remaining 22 seats.
The JLP campaign manager Karl Samuda conceded on local television that “we have not won … the people have spoken.”
