Deputy Prime Minister and current MP for St Annes Brent Symonette will not offer himself for re-election in the St. Anne’s constituency or any other area.
Symonette, who is minister of foreign affairs and immigration, made the announcement at a press conference at the Free National Movement headquarters on Mackey Street.

Mr Symonette thanked his constituents for their support over the past years and Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham for having confidence in him, but after 20 years in politics he is ready to leave front-line politics. He said that the FNM is committed to introducing new candidates and his exit would make way for them.
Symonette will retain his ministerial posts until after the next election. He will also stay on as deputy leader of the FNM until the party’s next convention.
