More than 7,000 tons of sand will be tipped on to Penno’s Wharf later this week.
The bulk carrier UBC Moin is bringing the material in from the Bahamas for the hospital project.
The ship is due to arrive in St George’s on Friday, a couple of days behind schedule.
The ship has two on-board crane buckets, which will unload 7,600 tons of sand on to the dockside.
The sand will then be transferred on to trucks and transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
The UBC Moin was built in 2009 and is flagged in Antigua and Barbuda.
She is 108 metres long and is small enough to be able to negotiate Town Cut.
This week sees the return of the Somers Isles to our shores.
The container ship has been in dry dock undergoing routine repair and maintenance work in Jacksonville since the end of last month.
Bad weather out at sea put her arrival back nearly 12 hours this week but she pulled into Hamilton yesterday afternoon.
She is now scheduled to head back to Florida slightly later than planned this afternoon.
Finally the Bermuda Islander gets into the capital first thing tomorrow, and will leave on Friday morning as per usual.
