BTC brings blazing speed to the 2012 CARIFTA Swimming Championships as the title sponsor contributing $40K to the tournament being held April 12 – 15 at the Betty Kelly-Kenning National Swim Complex.
The announcement was made today at a press conference attended by Kevin Colebrooke, Chief Sports & Recreation Officer, Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture, President of The Bahamas Swimming Federation Algernon Cargill, and BTC Vice President Marlon Johnson.
“BTC is proud to support the Bahamas Swimming Federation and this select group of talented Bahamian swimmers as they represent their country on their home soil,” said Johnson. “We are very excited to be part of this historic event that will showcase the new athletic facilities of The Bahamas and the excellence for which the Bahamian team stands.”
Swim Federation President: ‘Without BTC and Government, we would not have been able to host this meet.’
The Bahamas Swimming Federation (BSF) will play host to 22 countries and more than 500 swimmers competing in the four-day tournament hailing from countries including Guadeloupe, Grand Cayman, Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago.
“BTC’s title sponsorship of the 2012 CARIFTA Swimming Championships, a Regional Age Group Swimming meet, enables the Bahamas Federation to host these championships and simultaneously provide an opportunity for young Bahamians to compete at home in the front of their families and friends,” said Cargill. “Without BTC’s early commitment as our title sponsor, and of course the commitment of the Government of The Bahamas, we would not have been able to host this meet.”
BTC is also the sponsor of the 36-member Bahamas Swim Carifta team. The female team members are Celia Campbell, Jasmine Gibson, Margaret Higgs, Keitra Lloyd, Zoe McCarroll, Megan Reid, Tremaine Allen, Leslie Campbell, Joanna Evans, Doran Reed, Simone Sturrup, Andreas Weech, Alaena Carey, Bria Deveaux, Abigail Lowe, Laura Morley, Je’Nae Saunders and Taryn Smith.
Male team members include Miller Albury, Clement Bowe, Nicholas Rahming, Joshua Roberts, Alec Sands, Drew Bastian, Dionisio Carey, Farion Cooper, Gershwin Greene, Zach Moses, Meshach Roberts, Evante Gibson, Anibal Hernandez-Valdes, Keith Lloyd, Matthew Lowe, Toby McCarroll, T’Auren Moss and Dustin Tynes.
The Carifta Swim Team sponsorship is the latest in a series of events that have been made possible with the support of BTC. Among the company’s major contributions were the BAAA National Championships and a $220,000 donation to the 2011 Junior Junkanoo, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day Junkanoo parades in Nassau and Grand Bahama.
