The Miss Bahamas Universe Committee, yesterday announced that The Bahamas had submitted the winning bid to host the international pageant.
It is estimated that hosting the pageant, which is seen by about 1 billion people, will cost The Bahamas about $1.8 million.
“The benefits of just hosting the pageant here far outweigh the cost,” said Ms. Gaynelle Rolle, national director of the Miss Bahamas universe Pageant. The international pageant will bring an estimated 8,000 visitors to the islands for four weeks. This number does not include contestants, personnel or the members of the international press.
Miss Bahamas Universe Committee members outlined the benefits of hosting the pageant here, saying it will greatly benefit the Bahamian economy.
Ian Cargill, pageant chairman for legal affairs, said all the islands can be advertised before and during the pageant.
Ms. Rolle said the pageant committee is looking for island directors to tell them their individual island’s best features.
