Enron Corp. has agreed to sell its Bahamas-to-Broward County natural gas pipeline project to a French utility company, reviving a controversial proposal that many thought had died with the Houston companyﾴs bankruptcy.
Enron plans to sell the Calypso pipeline project to Tractebel North America Inc., a subsidiary of the large French company Suez, according to filings with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The sale must still be approved by the commission and by a federal bankruptcy judge in New York.
Paula Rockstroh, Tractebel’s vice president for communications, said it was premature to discuss the deal because it had not been approved by the judge. But she said the company saw an opportunity to enter a market with great prospects for growth.
“We’re very interested because we think it’s a terrific fit for the Florida market,” she said. “We’re hoping to serve some of the growth forecast for the next five years.”
