“You and Your Money,” the popular television talk show produced by The Counsellors Ltd., recently devoted a programme to technology investments and how these can greatly enhance the productivity of any company.
Hosted by Chester Cooper, the show featured a panel of experts, including John Farmer, President of Custom Computers Limited; Andre Knowles of Cable Bahamas , and Jorge Vera of 3Com Corporation, a leading international telephony systems provider.
Panellists discussed the latest in network solutions, with particular reference to networked telephone systems.
“We talked about how companies of any size can significantly reduce their costs and increase their productivity by taking full advantage of their existing computer network,” said John Farmer, President of Custom Computers. “Telephony is one example, as it allows a voice to be carried over a data network that’s already in place. Most often, the network telephony system components, including the phones themselves, become simple Ethernet ports in a firm’s local area network (LAN). This allows for a clear, static-free connection between phones, inside the office and between various offices, no matter where they are located.”
Network telephony can substantially reduce phone and communication costs, and allows a business to be in control of its own telephone systems, Mr. Farmer added.
“That’s one solution,” he said. “There are countless others that local companies such a Custom Computers and Cable Bahamas can provide to businesses right here at home.”
The panellists also discussed the level of technology that exists in The Bahamas today, pointing out that this country utilizes some of the most current hardware, software and systems found anywhere in the world.
“The Bahamas is very savvy when it comes to technology,” said Mr. Farmer. “Our company partners with global leaders such as 3Com Corporation, Hewlett-Packard and Minolta to bring state-of-the-art technology to our clients, because they demand it and have come to expect it. We are proud to work with the standard-bearers in the industry. It means that IT managers can look to Bahamian firms, such as Custom Computers, to provide them with the very best solutions.”
