More than 150,000 copies of the Bahamas Telecommunications Company 2003 phone directories became available today throughout the Bahamas and according to Batelco officials, who termed the timely production of the books “a big success.”
Vice President of Directory Publication for the Central and Southern Bahamas Tellis Symonette said the directories, were produced by a Canadian company at a cost of $919,000.
Each year Batelco produces a set of four phone books, the white and yellow pages, the Grand Bahamas pages and the Abaco pages.
This year, the white pages feature scenes from the ocean and carry the theme, “Managing Our Ocean Resources.”
“It features the various marine life that we have in the Bahamas and also some rules and guidelines as to how to catch fish, conch, turtles and crawfish,” Mr. Symonette said. “It also talks about how important is for us to preserve our marine life.”
The yellow pages focus on Bahamian art and music, Mr. Symonette said. It includes various types of Bahamian music and folklores.
The Grand Bahama book, which has as its theme “Our Nature, the Love of Paradise” features the Garden of Eden and the various types of bush medicines available in the Bahamas .
Some 30,000 Grand Bahama books were produced, while 10,000 Abaco pages were produced. The Abaco pages feature Agriculture resources and the crop calendar.
Mr. Symonette said that Batelco is proud of the early publication of the directories, after members from the directory and publication department worked long months trying to create a perfect design for the books.
Phone books are being distributed to members of the public from Batelco’s John F. Kennedy Drive , Shirley Street Plaza and Mall at Marathon depot locations.
Family Island customers can also pick up their copy of the new directories from their local Batelco office.
