BTC Launches New Web Site

The Bahamas Telecommunications Company Limited, (BTC) on Monday officially launched its new web site. According to the Company's President & CEO, Mr. Michael Symonette, "We are pleased to add this new electronic medium to our Corporate Communications programme.

This is Phase I of a three-phased introduction. Effective immediately, our customers and web visitors will be able to source comprehensive information on the Company, Products and Services, Pricing and Availability.

In Phase II, scheduled for release in March 2003, we will offer interactive services such as Account Information and Billing Inquires, Yellow Pages and White Pages Directories plus the ability to apply for services on-line. Phase III will see the introduction of on-line payments through secure bank and/or credit card transactions. However, we cannot forecast exactly when Phase III will be launched as it is greatly dependent upon when the Government has final passage of the new e-commerce legislation."

Mr. Glenroy Pratt, Manager MIS said, "We are very excited about this new site. While it is content heavy at this point, it covers all our products and services completely, including telephone contacts, availability of service by island and a complete list of resellers of distributors. This is not only a great marketing tool but also a very good source of information and reference data for our employees as well. The site will be hosted and managed by BaTelCo and in Phase II will interact with our AS-400 platform."

Consolidated M.idea Interactive, a Division of Consolidated Media Services, designed the site. "We have now made the decision to enter the web/e-commerce arena," said Jodi Stewart, President & CEO of Consolidated Media Services Limited. "We have formed a new division of CMS as a joint venture company with MBC Design of Montreal, Canada.

MBC Design is the architect of several major e-commerce initiatives for large multi-national firms such as Clairol, Johnson and Johnson, MGM Grand Hotel, Las Vegas as well as many more."

Ms. Stewart further stated, "We will now aggressively market our new capabilities. CMS was responsible for the creative execution of this project while MBC Design prepared the HTML code and Flash interactivity. We are actually practicing what e-commerce preaches… using the technology available to eliminate borders, distance, time delays etc. to deliver products and services designed to do the same"
