Police were today still searching for a woman reportedly abducted Saturday night in a dramatic series of events that started at a dark, area on a beach on the western tip of New Providence and ended on a rocky, dirt road near the Nassau International Airport.
Police press liaison officer Superintendent Hulan Hanna reported that around 3:10 am Sunday police received information of an armed robbery, shooting and abduction.
According to Lamonte Herbert Hamilton, 26, of Bozine Town, he and his girlfriend 29- year-old Sharell Porter of Cox Way, South Beach were at Jaws Beach in the Lyford Cay area around 9 o’clock Saturday night when they were accosted by two armed men. The men demanded money from Mr. Hamilton.
According to Mr. Hanna, Mr. Hamilton reported the armed men proceeded to beat him about the body while continuing to demand cash.
Eventually, the robbers took Mr. Hamilton and his girlfriend to a nearby Royal Bank where they attempted to access his account via an automated teller machine.
“Not having the appropriate PIN they were unsuccessful,” Superintendent Hanna said. “These persons took him and his girlfriend to the well fields where again they proceeded to beat him about the body.”
According to Mr. Hanna, “through some diversions” Mr. Hamilton was able to escape but, while fleeing some shots were fired and he was struck in the left arm.
“Eventually he was able to receive assistance from persons in the area of the Million Air airport and he was assisted to the medical plaza at Blake Road. He was treated and discharged,” Mr. Hanna said.
Mr. Hanna said the persons who escaped in the white 1997 truck, registration number 20910, the property of Domino’s Pizza, were joined by two other persons in a “grey, old model Lancer vehicle”.
Police mounted an extensive search of the entire western end of New Providence and were assisted by the US Coast Guard who provided aerial searches, Mr. Hanna said.
Up to this morning, neither Ms. Porter nor the white truck in which the suspects escaped had been seen.
Police appealed today to anyone who knows the whereabouts of Ms. Porter or anyone who has seen a white 1997 truck license number 20910 to contact them at 919 or 328-8477.
