The event would have brought untold benefits to the island’s tourism industry.
Promoters of the world’s most accomplished freediving champion, blonde beauty Tanya Streeter, were interested in having the Bahamas Tourism Board sponsor the diving diva. But Manager Paul Streeter says that both the PLP and FNM tourism ministers let this golden opportunity slip through their fingers. “We phoned, we faxed, we e-mailed and even FedEx-ed proposals.”
The proposals were for hosting the internationally televised diving event and also for yearly endorsement to promote the Bahamas.
Tourism Minister, Obie Wilchcombe, apparently feels that the Bahamas does not need sports tourism as the country was going to make it’s name in religious tourism.
