I concur with Mr. Carey’s presentation in the House of Assembly where he talked about civil service and corruption. I applaud him for standing up for what is right and not just for what is popular. The popular thing to do is to say that it is ok and not worry about it. Past governments may have done it but this government ought not follow that precedent.
The editorial was harsh and totally ludicrous in its assertion of Mr. Carey’s comments. From what I gathered he did not threaten anyone. He simply admonished the civil service to follow General Orders and anyone who didn’t would be dealt with according to general orders protocol. It is time for this country to get on track and stop playing. We got to rise above just politics in dealing with the issues of the country.
There are so many problems that people like Mr. Carey try to address but are bombarded with foolishness from the Tribune. The laws of the land must be followed and the rules and regulations governing the civil service ought to be followed.
We cannot continue to sweep things under the rug. It can’t be right. We need more MPs to speak out and do what is right. Why does the FNM and the Tribune support breaking the rules of General Orders? Is there a sinister plot behind this to overthrow the PLP government? Who is really behind this editorial? Why won’t they reveal their name?
The PLP government is under immense pressure because of the outdated approach of the FNM which has damaged good civil servants and allowed corrupt civil servants to rise to the top echelon and now reign terror on the government in not doing as they are directed.
Yours etc.,
Lonna Duncombe
