A Fat Girl

O, say can you see. And the rest of it, inclusive of bombs bursting in air and the blood and the guts and the screams of innocent men, women and children in Iraq and the body bags and the diseases and all the mess that comes with flying in the face of God Almighty.

Some years ago, a president of The United States of America was threatened with removal from office – by articles of impeachment – for the terrible offence of lying under oath about an adulterously delicious affair he had had with a fat girl named Monica Lewinsky. Mercifully, Bill Clinton was not impeached. And, mercifully too, Monica Lewinsky has retreated into the oblivion from which she had originally emerged.

While Ken Starr was righteously adamant that William Jefferson Clinton was unfit to continue in his high office because of the lies he told about what he and the fat girl did to and with each other, George W. Bush and his minions – aided and abetted by warriors armed with horrific weapons of mass destruction – are doing it to Saddam Hussein, his sons, and hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children.

What an irony! What a paradox! One man was excoriated and vilified for making love, albeit adulterously and illicitly, the other is getting ready to do the world.

The one who is doing the world is the one who should be arrested, tried and convicted for his crimes against humanity.

Even now the call has been sounded for articles of impeachment to be drawn up against President George W. Bush, Vice President Richard B. Cheney, Secretary of Defence Donald H. Rumsfeld, and Attorney General John D. Ashcroft. This call is based upon the Constitution of The United States of America Article II, Section 4 which reads: “The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanours”.

The claim is being made that, “President George W. Bush, Vice President Richard B. Cheney, Secretary of Defence Donald H. Rumsfeld, and Attorney General John D. Ashcroft have committed violations and subversions of the Constitution of the United States of America in an attempt to carry out with impunity crimes against peace and humanity and war crimes and deprivations of the civil rights of the people of the United States and other nations, by assuming powers of an imperial executive unaccountable to law and usurping powers of the Congress, the Judiciary and those reserved to the people of the United States. They have:

1. Seized power to wage wars of aggression in defiance of the U.S. Constitution, the U.N. Charter and the rule of law; planned massive military assaults on Iraq, a country that is not threatening the United States; planned a “Shock and Awe” strategy to create a Hiroshima-type effect on the Iraqi population which is terrorizing and outraging the people of the world.

2. Ordered and directed the violent overthrow of sovereign states, disappearances, kidnappings, assassinations, summer executions, murders and torture. “More than 3000 suspected terrorists have been arrested (by the U.S.) in many countries. And many others have met a different fate. Let’s put it this way. They are no longer a problem…[G. W. Bush, State of the Union message, February 4, 2003.]

3. Threatened to wage first strike nuclear war against even non-nuclear countries, setting off a new arms race as non-nuclear nations now seek to develop nuclear arms to deter U.S. aggression or the loss of their sovereignty.

4. Trashed the Bill of Rights and fundamental freedoms of the American people and others everywhere by acting to strip U.S. citizens of their constitutional and human rights; ordering indefinite detentions of citizens and non-citizens; ordering unlawful arrests, raids, and interrogations; institutionalising racial profiling and authorizing domestic spying on persons based on their engagement in non-criminal religious and political activities”.

Mercifully and rightfully, the two negroes who have faithfully served their masters have been exempted from the list. Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell, like many of their ilk, are going along for the ride. Coloured window dressing is what they are all about in the land of the free and home of the brave.
