Uniquely progressive, Doctors Hospital’s upgrade of its Phillips HDI 5000 has completely changed the face of imaging in The Bahamas. On its own the HDI (which stands for High Definition Imaging) 5000 is one of the best ultrasound systems on the market. Adding SonoCT X-RES technology to the HDI 5000 makes the machine’s capabilities simply phenomenal.
Ultrasounds traditionally provided non-invasive, pain free exams of the inside of the body without dyes, radiation or exploratory surgery. The Phillips HDI 5000 with SonoCT X-RES has revolutionized these basics concepts by merging 3D capabilities with High Definition Imaging and panoramic views providing a new level of quality imaging, detecting certain medical conditions other ultrasounds can not. It has in some cases, replaced more costly imaging procedures.
Previous systems lose up to half of the information sent from the body to the ultrasound. The Phillips HDI 5000 uses a broadband approach to ultrasound, capturing and digitally processing a more complete range of data; handling twice the acoustic information of less advanced ultrasound systems.
Using broadband flow, advanced 3D ,panoramic imaging and doppler techniques, the HDI 5000 with SonoCT X-RES is designed for obstetrics, embryologic development, direct interventional procedures in the liver and other organs, breast masses, abdominal organs, vascularity of solid organs and tumors.
The adaptive systemᄡs super computing powers offer fast, easy to view images of the neonatal brain, architecture of the fetal face and the curvature and detail of the fetal spine. “Using the upgraded version of the HDI 5000, we are able to detect and define subtle abnormalities, leading to earlier diagnoses and treatment,” stated DHHS’s Chief Radiologist, Dr. Larry Carroll. Impacting the Patients of Doctors Hospital already, the system was responsible for detecting one case with severe fetal abnormalities which presented as short limb dwarfism.
Commented Dr. Carroll, “The Phillips HDI 5000 with SonoCT X- RES is remarkable. As a result of clear, high quality 3D images, we are able to visualize complete structures. This aids our physicians greatly, significantly reducing the occurrence of inaccurate or misdiagnosis.”
Choosing the HDI 5000 because of its extraordinary features, progressive upgrades and compatibility with the Health System’s in-hospital technology standards, the upgraded ultrasound system is an impressive addition to the Imaging Department.
“We are pleased to be able to offer advanced imaging services here in The Bahamas. It is excellent that Bahamians now have access to this technology rather than having to travel abroad,” added Dr. Carroll.
Operational since 1955, Doctors Hospital Health System is continuously focused on exceeding established norms by providing the highest quality in health care and the latest in medical technology.
