According to the Department of Statistics, between May 2001 when the unemployment rate was 6.8 per cent and May 2003, when it was calculated to be about 9.1 per cent, approximately 4,200 Bahamians were added to the ranks of unemployment.
Department of Statistics officials told The Tribune yesterday that the number of unemployed persons in The Bahamas dropped during this period, from 153,310 to 152,690 leaving about 15,290 persons unemployed.
Unemployment figures for the period May 2002 to May 2003 will start to be compiled on May 5, the department announced.
