Prime Minister Perry Christie said he does not regret the appointment of chairman of the Hotel Corporation George Smith, who was implicated in the 1992 commission of inquiry, saying that he believed firmly in second chances.
Mr. Christie, who appeared on Love 97’s “Jones and Company” yesterday, was criticised for appointing chairmen of boards who served the previous PLP government under Lynden Pindling.
During his appointment of boards, Mr. Christie said he tried to keep an open mind. He knew the appointment of the chairman of the Hotel Corporation would attract some controversy but Mr. Smith had to meet his integrity test and “met a test very few people could.”
