'High Intensity' Police Sweep Nets Over 50

Fifty-three persons were apprehended by police officers on Friday and Saturday in connection with rape, attempted murder, and stolen vehicles.

Two firearms, a Maverick Shotgun and a .357 chrome and black revolver were also confiscated.

The arrests were the result of Police Operation "High Intensity."

The operation began at 6:17 p.m. Friday May 9, and ended May 10, at 8:40 a.m.

The arrests were based on outstanding warrants, on a number of allegations, including 11 drug-related matters, one attempted murder, one attempted robbery, three for attempted armed robbery, one for rape, seven for stolen vehicles, and nine for illegal immigration.

Police also arrested Dwight Cash for the attempted armed robbery of United Sanitation and Mrs. Blanche Thurston, on May 10. Cash was found in possession of a .35 revolver and six live rounds of ammunition. In addition to the arrests, 45 search warrants were executed, along with 200 name checks.
