Robert Meister, managing director of Dolphin Encounters, yesterday, said plans by Kerzner International to construct a dolphin habitat tro rival South Florida animal parks as part of its $600 million Phase III expansion could pose a major threat to his company.
In a statement sent to The Tribune, Mr Meister said the government’s apparent decision to lift the ban on expanding dolphin facilities in The Bahamas menat that Dolphin Encounters would look to expand its operations in an effort to maintain its market position and stave off the potential threat from Kerzner International’s plans.
Mr. Meister said that as a world-class facility serving as a major attraction for visitors to Nassau and Paradise Island, the Bahamian owned and operated Dolphin Encounters had enjoyed a good relationship with Kerzner International.
