Teacher Charged With Vagrancy

Canadian Michael Pilgrim, 54, a teacher at Hugh Campbell Primary School, appeared in court 1 before Magistrate Franklyn Williams.

It is alleged that on Saturday, May 31 around 2am, Pilgrim was found at Gladstone Terrace and Beaconsfield Drive in Freeport, Grand Bahama loitering about and when questioned was unable to give a satisfactory account for being in that location.

Ministry of Education District School Superintendent Cecil Thompson attended yesterday's arraignment.

Pilgrim was not represented by counsel.

The prosecutor objected to bail and asked that Pilgrim be remanded in custody due to "ongoing" police investigations.

Pilgrim, from No1, Freeport Squash Club, who has been teaching in the country for more than 20 years, told the magistrate he had no reason to flee the country because he has a son in school.

Pilgrim has been unable to to post the $20,000 cash bail and is still in custody.

Investigations continue.
