Turnquest vs. Miller

The leasing of office space by Bahamas Telecommunications Company in a plaza owned by Trade and Industry Minister Leslie Miller is a “clear conflict of interest and a blatant abuse of power,” FNM leader Tommy Turnquest told supporters as Minister Miller looked on.

The FNM leader also raised questions as to why a Ministry of Works vehicle was on the scene of repair efforts to Mr. Miller’s private tractor.

Mr. Turnquest called a press conference on Saturday at the Summer Winds Plaza on Harrold Road, where BTC (formerly BaTelCo) is leasing three office units for its directory publications department. Mr. Miller has executive interests in the company that oversees the rental and leasing arrangements and did not deny suggestions that he is a primary beneficiary of the company.

“If nothing is done in this instance, the prime minister and his code of ethics will be viewed as one big farce and the Bahamian people will realise that the PLP government is far from what it purported to be – “a new PLP,” said Turnquest.
