Seminar Will Focus On Caribbean Trade Issues

The conference, entitled “The Future of Caribbean Business in a Free Trade Area of the Americas” is to be held on September 20 at the University of Miami and will be attended by Bahamas Trade Minister Leslie Miller. Speakers will include Jose Manuel Salazar Xinnachs, trade director of the Organisation of American States, and CARICOM trade ambassador Richard Bernal. CARICOM secretary-general Edwin Carrington will also attend the seminar.

The major themes of discussion, according to a Nassau Guardian report, will be regional negotiating positions and the economic impact of an agreement on regional economies.

The Miami seminar will act as a forerunner to the Eighth Annual FTAA Ministerial Meeting in November, where the 34 trade ministers will discuss the final phase of the FTAA negotiations.
