In a letter to the Minister of Tourism, Obie Wilchcombe, forwarded to The Tribune, he related the incident in which he claims his daughter and wife were inhumanely and cruelly attacked.
Hotel general manager Robert Sands confirmed that an incident was, in fact, reported on the day outlined in the letter.
"I can also confirm that the matter is under serious investigation by the police. We offered every possible assistance to the families and our insurance company and our attorneys are involved. We have been humanitarian and sympathetic to these particular parties," he said.
According to the letter, the incidents occurred on Thursday, August 21, when two American families and a Trinidadian were allegedly attacked at gunpoint in three separate hotel rooms at the Nassau Beach Hotel on Cable Beach between 7:20am and about 8:10am or 8:15am.
"At about 7:20am my wife…my (two) children…and myself were walking out of the room when two gunmen forced us to go back. We were thrown ont he floor, they tied our hands and feet, covered our mouths, kicked our bodies and threatened us with their guns demanding 'where is the money?' These two men appeared to be from the island and spoke all the time with the local accent.
"After taking our personal property and inflicting on my wife and daughter the most inhuman and cruel acts, these man left the room at about 7:40 and entered (another room) where they perpetrated another attack on an American family of two adults and a small child from New York," he said.
The letter included contacts for this family. However, The Tribune was not able to reach them.
"The… family told me that the criminals spent about 15 minutes in their room. When they left they jumped down froma balcony to the third floor and attacked a lady from the island of Trinidad. My estimation is that these ruthless criminals probably left the hotel premises at about 8:15 without being confronted or even seen by any hotel staff.
The visitor's letter said after the criminals left the room, his wife was able to untie herself in less than a minute and he called the hotel lobby for assistance.
"A hotel staff person arrived at our door seven minutes later, unarmed with a small communications radio in his hand. the Cable Beach police station was contacted immediately and arrived 50 to 55 minutes after being called. An ambulance took over an hour to arrive in our room.
"My wife and daugher were taken to Princess Margaret Hospital for initial medical evaluation. Dr. Thompson the attending physician, ordered laboratory testing and prescribed different medications. Back at home we continued to receive professional and medical treatment.
