BREA Licensing Course Delayed

The instructor, Bermudian Larry Sticca, was unable to fly for the course as Bermuda's airport was closed by Fabian's wrath. The BREA course originally was planned from Sept. 8-12 with the examination set for Saturday, Sept. 13 at The British Colonial Hilton Hotel.

Mr. Larry Sticca, MA, CRA, of Bermuda is now in his 12th year as instructor for the Entry Level course. Generally only about half those taking the course pass the exam. The passing grade is 80 percent correct answers. Students generally agree his course is one of the most difficult but enjoyable in their experience.

Former BREA President Patrick Strachan, CRS, GRI, CRRA, CRB, still a member of the very successful BREA Education and Training Committee, explains the process of ᄈbecoming a licensed real estate agent in The Bahamas, the only persons who may legally sell Bahamian real estate:ᄇ

Not everyone who passes the BREA entry level course goes on to become a licensed BREA agent, however.)

He states, ᄈTo become a qualified and licensed real estate agent in The Bahamas you must:

1. Be sponsored by a BREA broker to register for the exam;

2. After you pass the exam, you must be employed by a licensed BREA broker;

3. You must be proposed and seconded by two licensed brokers and apply for a license, meeting the other requirements of a character reference, a bank reference and two photos.ᄇ

Replacing Mr. Strachan as Chairman of the all important Education Committee is Sheila Young of Bahamas Isles Realty Ltd. Richard Demeritte of CARIBO Real Estate; Shawn Thomas and Wendy Johnson also serve on the committee.

BREA Entry Level course, 2003

Coming in October, 2003, BREA plans double new CRS courses back to back, including CRS 206 ᄈTechnologies to Advance Your Business,ᄇ open to all licensed realtors at a price of $600.The CRS instructor for this event is Pat Zaby, CCIM, CRB, CRS of Dallas, Texas.

CRS 206 ᄈdemonstrates the latest tools and systems to enable sales associates to become more productive, increase their profits and to differentiate themselves in the market place.ᄇ

Topics included are: learning new ways to use digital imaging; examining virtual tours and marketing applications, taking e-mail to the next level for marketing campaigns; understanding the power of PDAs and other handheld computing technologies.

Course content features using a contact manager, creating multimedia and printed presentations, online services, e-mail and the internet and improving time management.
