However, he said it was important for him to “allow” Mr. Kerzner’s recent statement as he needs to “galvanise focus on the airport for the work we are in the process of doing.”
“I did not challenge him at the time, at least publicly, but very clearly we need to do major work here in anticipation of the major developments that will take place on this island,” said Mr. Christie.
Mr. Kerzner called NIA one of the worst airports in the world at the ground -breaking ceremony of Kerzner International’s Ocean Club.
He said it would be difficult to move forward with developments without “seeing things happening that are going to make this a first class airport.”
Mr. Christie agreed that the $600 million third phase at Atlantis, and the recent announcement of an agreement to purchase Club Med, possibly representing a fourth phase, meant the country would have to accommodate increased visitors.
