Bahamas Hotel Association of HR Professionals Awards Scholarship Psychology major Chrystal Bethel is the first-ever recipient of the Bahamas Hotel Association of Human Resources Professionals scholarship. Bethel will be able to continue her training while preparing for a career in hospitality.
“I wanted to choose a career where I could get the best of both worlds. I love meeting people and I’m good at problem solving,” said Bethel, who recently graduated from the College of The Bahamas with an Associates Degree in psychology. “Eventually I would like to work in the human resources side of hospitality management.”
On hand for the presentation at the Atlantis Resort were board members from the Association, which was formed four years ago and has representatives in major hotels and restaurant chains in the Bahamas.
The scholarship is designed to introduce students to the field of human resources as it relates to the hotel industry. It includes an internship experience allowing the recipient to participate in two-week rotation periods throughout departments in various resorts.
The Association is made up of more than a dozen human resources directors and professionals, and has ties to the Society For Human Resources Management, the largest HR body in the world.
