Juvenile Charged With Murder

The decision left both his father and younger brother in tears.

Dressed in a long sleeved denim shirt, dark gray slacks and sneakers, the juvenile, who kept his head hung low, appeared before Magistrate Susan Sylvester Friday afternoon in connection with last week’s fatal stabbing of 14-year-old Jeffrey Clerveaux.

The St. Margaret Road resident, who is of Haitian descent, is accused of stabbing Clerveaux to death last Tuesday following an altercation. Police said Clerveaux, who was a resident of Balls Alley, was stabbed in the left shoulder around 5:30pm and died shortly afterwards, becoming the country’s 37th murder victim for the year.

The accused, who was represented by attorney Dion Smith, was not allowed to enter a plea. Before being escorted to a nearby police car, the 17-year-old requested permission to say goodbye to his brother, who was waiting outside the court during the arraignment.

A preliminary inquiry has been set for Tuesday, October 29 at 10am before a juvenile panel. The preliminary inquiry will determine if there is sufficient evidence for the case to go to trial.
