Junkanoo Will Go On Says Wisdom

The minister commended them for their willingness to take a risk in handling ticketing and bleachers for Junkanoo parades for the next five years.

Their favourable tender proposition, he said, will take the Bahamas government from a non-profitable position to earning 10 per cent profits.

“They came up with a wonderful plan: no money would come from the public treasury, there was no cost to the government for the provision of the seating and at the end of the contract, the seats would belong to the government of the Bahamas; and during the of the contract the Bahamas would get 10 per cent of the gross – all of which would be used to for Junkanoo,” said the minister.

The aluminium seating will not only be used for Junkanoo

“And so the argument that we should give the seating or provide the seating to the Junkanoo community is not a good one because we want to be able to have other national events, having access to that same seating… we will have available in the Bahamas facilities that enable us to have safe, secure and insured seating for all national events and other sporting, cultural and youth events,” said Mr. Wisdom.
