This means that 17.5% of the union’s bargaining unit have taken a strike vote against the 11 hotels represented by the BHEA. The BHCAWU can now authorise legal strike action at any time.
The officers and members say they have been left with no other alternatives than to conduct a strike vote against the Association. The union said that its entire 6,052 membership throughout the country was involved in the vote.
Shortly after 10am yesterday union president Pat Bain met with the press to discuss the strike vote at Worker’s House.
“The decision for a strike action is a direct result of stalled negotiations with an obstinate group of lawyers at the bargaining table,” he said. “Despite our team working around the clock to come to an agreement, negotiations have reached an all time impasse.”
