Strong Feelings In Poll On Renaming Airport

The strong feelings against a plan to name Nassau International Airport after Sir Lynden Pindling have been expressed in the latest Tribune poll.

The late prime minister was accused of leaving the Bahamas a “shabby legacy” and of besmirching the name of the nation.

Due to technical difficulties, the final tally in the poll will not be known until later this week, but indications are that the anti-Pindling votes outnumbered his supporters.

What is known is that the poll – asking if the airport should be named after him – attracted a response far above average.

Many voters claimed that if the counrty did rename the airport that it would taint the Bahamas internationally.

Sir Lynden’s alleged involvement in drugs and the findings of the Commission of Inquiry in the 1980’s had left a bad taste.

“I think they should rename the airport. In its shabby condition, it befits the shabby legacy Sir Lynden left us,” said one voter.

Others felt that Sir Lynden has already been honoured through his protrait on the one dollar bill.
