Peet Brokers Labour Truce

ZNS television news reports that Minister of Labour, Vincent Peet, has brokered a temporary truce between the Bahamas Hotel Catering and Allied Workers Union and the Bahamas Hotel Employers Association.

Both sides have agreed to resume negotiations at the Minister’s office Friday morning.

Mr. Bain said his union had clarified a few important points and was ready to continue negotiations. But he also mentioned that a strike vote had been taken and that industrial action would still be legal, although he hoped it wouldn’t be necessary.

J. Barrie Farrington, head of the Hotel Employer’s Association, said he was happy to go back to the table and will devote as much time as necessary to conclude the agreement. He said he was pleased that normal services to hotel guests would be resumed as he saw the importance of meeting the expectations of visitors to The Bahamas.
