In addition, there was an increase of six per cent in 2003 in crimes against property. These figures were released yesterday, by Chief Superintendent of Police, Officer in Charge of the Central Detecive Unit, Marvin Dames at the release of the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s annual statistics.
There was a four per cent decrease in the national murder rate during 2003. In Grand bahama there was an 87 per cent increase in the murder rate during 2003 when compared to 2002.
Last year 30 per cent of murders occurred at residences while murders at nightclubsrepresented 18 per cent of all murders.
Also 36 per cent of the murder victims were between the ages of 21 and 30 years old, 14 per cent were between the ages 11 and 20.
