The government moved swiftly yesterday to deny there was an attack on the Bahamas Embassy in haiti on Tuesday – even though the report originated from its own broadcasting station.
Foreign Affairs Minister dismissed television and newspaper reports of the incident as “untrue”.
But Haitian sources in Nassau yesterday described the government’s reaction to the ZNS story by reporter Shenique Miller as “a classic case of damage control”.
Mr. Mitchell told the House of Assembly that the Ambassador Eugene Newry confirmed that reports of his vehicle being shaken with him and his wife inside were “untrue”.
The minister said he wanted to clear up reports that protesters against Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide shook the gates of the Bahamian embassy in Port-au-Prince, shouting that the Bahamas was too small to solve Haiti’s problems.
