Speaking with The Tribune yesterday the 75-year-old Mr. Saunders recounted the frightening incident.
Mr. Saunders said he left the Poop Deck, where he had had dinner, at about 10pm to return to his High Vista home where he was attacked by four masked gunmen.
“My house is totally fenced in and the driveway is about 1,000 feet from the entrance so when I park me car I usually look around to make sure no one is there in the yard when I get out.”
“But when I got out of the car I was accosted by four men,” he said.
One of the men had a shotgun and the other three had revolvers.
One of the men gun-butted Mr. Saunders in the face. The other men then started to wrap masking tape around his head and neck. After they bound his arms and legs with tape, they lifted him, carried him to the kitchen and left him face down on the floor.
“One of them put his foot on my back and I heard one say ‘said shoot him now’ and then another one said ‘no don’t shoot him now'”.
They rummaged through everything and then went back to the car. Mr. Saunders said he wited for a while before starting to free himself.
After freeing himself completely he made a dash for the door to the back yard and hid in the bushes until he heard them gunmen drive off.
Police are investigating but have no significant leads so far.
