$180,000 Quick-Cell Cards Missing

Minister Roberts was responding to a comment raised by High Rock MP Kenneth Russell, regarding the missing cards.

Minister Roberts said last Friday he received a copy of a report from the company’s internal auditors, that was also submitted to the board of directors audit committee. He said at the time, it was determined that $180,000 appeared to be missing from the inventory of Quick Cell phone cards.

Auditor report

“The internal auditor has recommended that the matter be referred to the police and the board has so directed. It is a matter that is in the hands of the police and we await the response from the police. That is the factual position, Mr. Speaker,” Minister Roberts said.

Mr. Russell said the auditors report should tabled, so everyone could know the “truth” and the exact amount of Quick Cell cards stolen.

Minister Roberts said he knows it is the opposition’s business to present what they consider to be deficiencies by the government, but they ought not to be “reckless” in doing so.

Minister Roberts said when it came to questions on the agenda that were addressed to him by the opposition, he made it a point to provide answers. He said there is no member of the opposition who has asked him a question in the past and he did not offer a response.

“Not one of them, and I dare and challenge them now to stand to their feet. Not one of you has asked me for information that I did not provide you.” said Minister Roberts.

The Grants Town MP said it was “amazing and incredible” that for years when the PLP was in opposition, questions that were tabled went unanswered for years by the FNM administration.

“Mr. Speaker, they were kicked out of office in May 2002 and never answered the questions,” Minister Roberts concluded.
