Survey Reveals Bahamian Economy Still Vulnerable

The semi-annual survey conducted by the Coalition of Private Sector Organisations, which drew responses from 93 businesses, found that while the economy was continuing a “three-year trend of vulnerability” business optimism about future prospects was increasing, indicating a tentative recovery was underway.

Some 79 per cent of Bahamian businesses held a fair to positive outlook for the economy in January 2004, compared to just 57 per cent six months ago and 48 per cent a year ago, leading the Coalition survey to conclude that a “clear trend of increased confidence in the future economic outlook is occurring.”
