Downtown Sales Drop Due To Bleachers

Downtown businesses suffered a 55 per cent decline in sales last year measured against 2002 due to extended bleacher placement following the Boxing Day Junkanoo Parade last December, a tourism survey has revealed.

The survey, spearheaded by the Nassau Tourism Development Board (NTDB) confirmed that the extended bleacher placement last December caused an 80 per cent sales drop for retail and restaurant sales when measured against the year 2000.

These percentages accounted for businesses experiencing a dollar loss ranging between $5,000 and $150,000 last year.
