A man was shot and killed by police on Saturday, bringing the number of deaths from police shootings this year to three.
The man, who allegedly was carrying a shotgun, several rounds of ammunition, a pair of gloves and a mask when he was shot has been identified by police as Andrew Williams. He is suspected to have been behind a number of crimes in southern New Providence, including a shooting on Resurection Drive last week in which two men were injured.
Williams was shot at 12:50am Saturday in Bamboo Town. He was taken to hospital where he died three hours later.
As with all police shootings, an investigation will be carried out.
Even before this latest death, police were being called on to defend recent shootings. Supt. Hulan Hanna said yesterday that while police should only use lethal force when they have to, they must also stand up to criminals, who are becoming increasingly bold.
