Bahamian Drug Trafficking Gang Smashed

A joint initiative between the Bahamas, the US and countries in the Caribbean and South America has led to more than 50 arrests in the culmination of a 29-month investigation dubbed the ‘Caribbean Initiative’.

It was revealed in Washington that the initiative was a multifaceted attack on all levels of major drug trafficking organisations in the Caribbean corridor.

These arrests, according to US Attorney General John Ashcroft, have smashed the Melvin Walter Maycock and Pedro Vincent Smith cartel operating out of the Bahamas and the Colombian Cobos cartel.

The proceeds of the organisations crimes are believed to have totalled more than $278 million.
