According to January 2004 Immigration Departure Cards, the likeliness of visitors to recommend the Bahamas is plummeting, dropping each month by over 2 percent. In January, when visitors were asked how likely they were to recommend The Bahamas to others, 69.7% said they were likely to do so. Only a month later, the figure dropped to 67.5%. Then in March, it fell once again, this time to 65.3%. Tourism Minister Obie Wilchcombe is concerened about the effect that these downward numbers will have on tourism.
”The importance of this figure is quite significant,” said Wilchcombe. ”We have come to realise that the most important thing for us to improve as a nation is our reputation.”
In 8 categories of satisfaction – ranging from resturants to taxis, from attitudes of locals to hotel services – the percent of visitors who thought the services were “much better/better than expected”” has dropped from January to February
