Airline Adds New Nassau Route Via Ft. Lauderdale

US Airways yesterday unveiled plans to transform Fort Lauderdale Hollywood Airport into its hub for servicing the Caribbean region, with the carrier also set to introduce a direct route to Nassau from that destination.

It said each-way fares on the Fort Lauderdale to/from Nassau route would be priced $81, minus taxes and fees paid in both countries, such as aiport tax departure and arrivals tax.

The discount fares, known as GoFares, are designed to help US Airways combat the arrival of low-cost carriers into the Caribbean market.

By February 2005, US Airways said it will have tripled flights to the Caribbean, subject to approval by foreign authorities, which include the Bahamas.
