After suffering losses of $6 million during Hurricane Frances and additional damage following Hurricane Jeanne, the Grand Bahama Power Company expects nearly full restoration of electricity on the island in the next four weeks.
Roger Johnson, director of community and customer relations at GB Power, reported that to date power has been restored to 8,000 of the 18,700 customers on the island.
According to power officials, about 1,200 poles were destroyed during Frances.
However, because of infrastructural improvements made after Hurricane Frances with the assistance of help from the US, the Caribbean, BEC in Nassau and Provo in the the Turks and Caicos, Mr. Johnson saod the system has held up well and restoration is moving at a faster pace.
