Husband Devastated Over Wife’s Murder In The Bahamas

A husband described his “devastation” on learning that his wife had been savagely mutilated and murdered in their Cat Island home.

Forced to cope with the loss of the woman with whom he had “shared everything” for more than twenty years of marriage, American resident Larry Meredith broke down during an interview with The Tribune yesterday.

Mr. Meredith, strained by his grief, said that he had left the island on Monday to go to his hometown, Fort Lauderdale to get supplies for their business. He and his 49-year-old American wife owned a service station and a convenience store in the Bluff area on Cat Island.

Carol Meredith, well-known on the island, was discovered by police in the bedroom of her home. Her throat had been slit. She had been savagely mutilated with a knife before being killed.

“Someone must have been watching her,” Mr. Meredith said, “because I had warned her not to open the door to anyone, even if it was someone we know looking to borrow money. Whoever was watching her must have waited for the right moment to get in, and it was probably when she came back from walking the dogs.”

He said the warning before he left the island seemed necessary as neighbours had been concerned about activities on the island.
