Bahamas Supermarkets Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Bryan Knowles to the position of Chief Financial and Administrative Officer.
Knowles joined Bahamas Supermarkets Limited (BSL) on September 9, 1989 as Financial Controller, Treasurer and Assistant Secretary, assuming direct responsibility for corporate finance, financial accounting, information technology, administration and management of The Bahamas Supermarkets Foundation and Bahamas Supermarkets Profit-Sharing Retirement Trust. In 1993, Knowles was named Vice President assuming increased responsibilities in corporate planning and operations. As CFAO, Knowles’ expanded responsibilities now include security, communications, maintenance and warehousing for the major grocery retailer.
Before joining BSL, Knowles led the development of the management and information systems consultancy practice at Thorne Ernst & Whinney, Chartered Accountants. Prior to joining Thorne Ernst & Whinney in 1986, Knowles held leading roles in business design and development as founding partner of Trident Logistics, a private company that provided strategic supply chain planning, design and management services to retail and distribution businesses. A former treasurer and director of Budget-Rent-A-Car, Knowles was instrumental in the development of the company, with particular focus in corporate financing, asset acquisition and operation processes. Prior to this, Bryan Knowles served as project director at BCL Technology, a joint-venture that provided mission-critical software development and implementation services.
It was at Peat Marwick (now KPMG) where Knowles gained his extensive accounting and business consulting knowledge and experience. He enjoyed a 10-year career with the firm completing assignments at its New York and Bahamas offices where he provided audit, management advisory and information system consultancy to the retail, oil and gas, chemical manufacturing and financial services industries.
A graduate of Biscayne College (now St. Thomas University), Bryan Knowles holds a B.A. in business administration, with concentration in accounting and financial management, and a M.B.A. from the University of Phoenix, College of Graduate Business and Management.
Knowles is a member of the American Institute of CPA’s and The Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants. A former director of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce, Knowles is presently Honorary Secretary of the Chamber. He currently chairs the Chamber’s Public Policy and Legislative Review Committee. He is a treasurer of the Rotary Club of West Nassau, a Paul Harris Fellow and past president (1993-94). Knowles is also a director of Junior Achievement, The Bahamas.
