Police are awaiting an autopsy report to determine what caused the death of prominent Grand Bahama businessman Ronald Davidson, who was discovered lying unconscious outside his home late last week.
Davidson, who is credited for introducing the Brita water purifying system to The Bahamas, died at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau on Saturday, December 10, 2005, leaving those left to mourn wondering how he died.
The 67- year-old father of two was discovered by his daughter around 4:00 p.m. at the gate outside his home at #5 Ocean Hill Boulevard, Freeport, on Wednesday, December 7, 2005.
After several calls to the news desk from concerned residents, who suspected foul-play in the matter, The Freeport News contacted Mr. Davidson’s wife Carol Davidson, who explained what happened.
Mrs. Davidson said when they found her husband, their initial reaction was that he had a stroke, fell down and hit his eye. She said that it wasn’t until they got the cat scan results in Nassau that they began to suspect that something was wrong.
“We air lifted him to Nassau because there was no cat scan here and he could not talk,” she said. “When we got to Nassau and he got the cat scan, it showed that his brain was severely bruised. The doctor in Nassau told me that it is a police matter and that he would refer it to them.”
She added that this suggested that her husband was attacked, but for what reason she is still unsure.
“We don’t know why it happened,” she said. “He wasn’t robbed because his wallet was still in his pocket and his car was still running.”
An emotional Mrs. Davidson said her husband’s death is a hard thing to accept.
“We always worked together, people called us Siamese twins,” Mrs. Davidson recalled, tears streaming down her face as she reflected on their time together.
The duo introduced Brita water filters to The Bahamas back in the 1980s through their company, Brita Caribbean Limited, which offers services to hotels, restaurants and bars.
The services include equipment and supplies: beverage systems restaurant supplies, hotel equipment as well as ice making equipment and machines, marine equipment and supplies and also water treatment equipment.
A private home going service for Mr. Davidson is scheduled for Monday, December 19, 2005 at 3:30 p.m. at Grand Bahama Memorial Park for close friends and family.
