Cocaine Evidence Goes Missing From Police Lab

An investigation has been launched to find out what happened to nine kilos (201bs) of cocaine that has gone missing from the police forensic laboratory, The Punch tabloid has revealed.

The missing cocaine was reportedly due to be used as evidence in four cases of accused drug dealers in Freeport. Now prosecutors will reportedly have to drop those four drug cases due to lack of evidence.

The nine kilos of cocaine are valued at about $270,000. The drugs reportedly went missing from the Forensic Laboratory in July. At the time, Supt James Carey, head of the Lab, was away on vacation. However, Supt Carey and his deputy at the lab, AsstSupt Elbert Ferguson, have both been transferred to head the Uniform Division. And Supt Qulnn McCartney is to return as the chief of the Forensic Lab.

A group of senior officers have reportedly been to see PM Perry Chrlstle on behalf of Supts Carey and Ferguson. The officers feel Carey and Ferguson have been made scapegoats for the missing cocaine and treated unfairly.
