The brother of a teenage girl killed in a horrific hit and run incident on Monday has pleaded for the general public to help the police find the driver.
Editor’s Note: The hit-and-run driver has since been identified as Don Edgar Lewis. Please call the Bahamas Police if you have information on his whereabouts.
James Price Jr, 20, said he hopes the man responsible for killing 17-year-old Judith Price and injuring three other family members is brought to justice.
In a heart-wrenching interview, Mr Price Jr. reflected on his sister’s life, claiming that she was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“We need to find the person who did this. I hope some one out there can help us because I miss my sister already. She was a real cool person, I miss her,” he said. “As much I used to play around with my lil’ sister, rowing her, cracking jokes on her, she still used to show me love.
“That’s why I’m so bugged about it. She’s innocent.”
The C C Sweeting 12th grader was an ‘A’ student with big dreams and an even bigger personality. She was just months away from graduating and planned to pursue a career in medicine.
“Judy was smart, she had big dreams,” Mr Price Jr said. “She was loving, caring and full of life. I can’t believe this happened. The night before it happened we went to the carnival and she bought me whatever I wanted, that’s just the type of person she was.”
Judith’s sister, eight-year-old Viola Price and cousin Luke Frazer, 18, were also badly injured when the crazed driver slammed his car into them. After being discharged from hospital, they joined friends and family members to reflect on Judith’s life.
Little Viola flipped through photo albums and seemed to be studying her sister’s smile in each picture. She walked around the house with a white bandage hiding a head wound.
“Sometimes she used to get me mad and when I ask for something she used to tell me no, but she was still my big sister,” Viola said.
“She was a good sister to me. She liked to dress up and fix her hair and look nice. She was pretty.”
Missionaries from The Lords House of Faith, the Price’s local church, were shocked by the news of Judith’s death. They said she was an energetic lady with an “angelic voice”.
According to the girls’ mother, Edith Price, the fourth victim, Precious Price, 15, was still fighting for her life in Princess Margaret Hospital.
“They [the doctors] say she is brain damaged and she is not out of the woods yet,” Mrs Price said. “They’re watching her because she has a hole in the back of her head and they can’t close it because they need to watch the brain. The doctors told me she took a severe hit to the brain.”
James Price Sr, the girls’ father, was visibly shaken by his daughter’s death and refused to speak. He nervously paced the living room floor before walking outside as he tried to come to terms with the family tragedy.
Police reports said around 12:00 a.m. on Monday, a man driving a white car with three passengers smashed into Luke and then sped off.
According to Mr Price Jr, the girls saw the incident and ran outside their yard to help their cousin when the driver returned alone and ran over them. Around 4:00 p.m. on Monday, “Judy” died of her injuries.
Police say investigations are ongoing but at this stage they cannot classify her death.
Luke said the driver appeared to be in his early 30’s, approximately 6’2″ with dark complexion, “nappy” hair and two missing front teeth.
