Bandits Rob Worshippers

Police Inspector Walter Evans said the worshippers were disrupted by a smashing sound.

“They discovered that the western glass door of the building had been shattered,” he said.

“Three bandits then entered the church and held all of the persons at bay, including a pastor, who was tied with a microphone cable as the culprits proceeded to rob him and the church members of cash, cell phones and other personal items.”

Police said the robbers fled on foot in the nearby area.

Two hours later, a similar scene played out with a 36-year-old resident of Deveaux Street as the target, according to police.

Police said that the man had just arrived home when three men, one armed with a handgun, approached him.

The culprits robbed the man of his white SUV, according to police.

Meantime, authorities are hoping to soon take three persons before the courts on two separate firearm charges.

The first incident involves a 20-year-old male.

According to Inspector Evans, officers from the Central Police Station were patrolling the Nassau Street area on Wednesday evening when they noticed a man walking suspiciously.

The man was stopped and searched, Mr. Evans said.

Officers reportedly discovered a 9mm sawed off caliber rifle with four live rounds of ammunition in his possession.

Mr. Evans also said that after 7pm officers executed a search warrant at a home in Monastery Park where they found a .38 handgun and three live rounds of ammunition.

Police arrested a 29-year-old Jamaican female and a 36-year-old Bahamian male, who reportedly has both Bahamian and Jamaican passports.
