As promised, the Minister of Financial Services and Investments Allyson Maynard-Gibson named attorney Leslie Isaacs as the new director of financial services yesterday.
The appointment was designed to further strengthen the regulatory regime for the sector.
Ms. Isaacs acquired experience while serving in both local and regional law and government agencies. She was the former first Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Public Personnel, the Attorney General’s Office and the Learning Resources Unit.
She also serves as legal advisor and secretary to the Board of the Public Hospitals Authority.
“I hope to foster the development of cooperation between both the private and government agencies and help grow the financial services and investment industry,” she said at a press conference that was called to make the announcement.
Prime Minister Perry Christie created the ministry soon after the Progressive Liberal Party won the government in a landslide victory on May 2, 2002.
Minister Maynard Gibson said Ms. Isaacs brings to the new position of directorship a wealth of expertise and diligence to assist in the sustenance of what she called one of the fastest growing industries in the country.
She is an alumnus of the College of The Bahamas, the University of Miami, the Norman Manley School of Law and the University of the West Indies Mona Institute of Business.
“Undoubtedly, Ms. Isaacs has achieved and maintains quite an array of skills in diversified areas of management, directorship, hands on interaction with staff and personnel and the meticulous handling of legal matters for private and government agencies,” the minister said.
“She epitomizes the benefits that come with multi-skilled professionals,” she added.
Ms. Isaacs was called to the Jamaican and Bahamas Bar in 1995 and holds an executive Masters in Business Administration, a Certificate of Legal Education, a Master of Science in Education, a Bachelor of Science in Social Administration, a Certificate in Public Administration and an LLB from the University of Buckingham.
