More Beauty Pageant Scandals

The organising committee of The Miss Bahamas World contest has confirmed exclusively to The Nassau Guardian that mid-way through her reign, Ms Moss,18, has relinquished her title.

Michelle Malcolm, Chairman of The Miss Bahamas Organisation, said the committee has written to Ms Moss, thanking her for her work and particularly for her contribution at The Miss World Pageant, held in Sanyo, China, during December. Ms Moss officially resigned her title on January 5.

When The Miss Bahamas Organisation was launched last year, it sought “suitable young women between the ages of 17-24. They must also be between 5’5 and 6’2 in height, with the weight being proportionate to height.

According to Ms Malcolm, the organisation has already recruited some 18 young ladies, four of whom are from the Family Islands, as candidates for its July 8 pageant.

“We are busy planning our next pageant,” said Ms Malcolm,, “we are making big plans for this pageant and we plan to just hit this out of the ball park.”

“Pageantry in The Bahamas is already suffering from a serious black eye and we did not want to add to that,” Ms Miss Malcolm said. Ms Moss has been very popular during her short reign. A 2005 graduate of Kingsway Academy, she won over seven other competitors for the title in a private screening, which was held last September. “She is a very lovely young lady and I don’t feel as if we made the wrong decision when we chose her to be our queen,” she said.

The winner of The Miss Bahamas World will have the opportunity to represent the country in The Miss World pageant.

There will be three queens crowned however, with the first runner-up being sent to The Miss Asia Pacific International Competition and the second runner- up being sent to Ms Intercontinental.
