Fake U.S. Money Found

“Officers found in their possession $4,300 in US counterfeit money. The money was in $10 and $50 denominations,” said Police Liaison Officer Insp Walter Evans.

Police reports indicated that around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Officers stationed at the airport nabbed the Jamaican men, shortly after their arrival at New Providence from Jamaica.

Both men, who reportedly are in their early-30s, are presently in police custody and the authorities said the culprits could be formally charged as early as next week.

Police added that this is not an isolated case. Officers from the Cable Beach Police Station reportedly recently arrested a Jamaican female after she had been caught with a large sum of US counterfeit money.

“We recently had a case, where a Jamaican female was arrested at a Cable Beach hotel after she was caught with $10,000 in US counterfeit money in her possession,” said Inspector Evans.

Police believe apprehension of the two Jamaican men is proof of the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s commitment to eradicate crime in all forms.

In another police report, several illegal immigrants were taken into custody on Thursday.

During Operation Quiet Storm on Thursday night, a team of officers performing random checks and searches apprehended the seven illegal immigrants. Reports indicate they are being held at the Carmichael Road Detention Centre.

The detainees are two Haitian men and two Haitian women, two Peruvian women and one Jamaican woman.

In recent media reports, the Minister of Immigration, Labour and Training, Shane Gibson, warned illegal immigrants in the country. He said the government is committed to bringing them to justice.

Police said the apprehension of illegal immigrants during the raids proves the Force is actively involved in helping the country to combat its illegal immigration problem.
